Enhancing Utilitas’ District Heating Maintenance Efficiency

Utilitas is the largest producer of renewable energy in Estonia offering district heating and cooling. District heating is the most common form of heating in the country with at least 60% share in overall heat supply. Most of the heat is produced from renewable source, including local low-value biomass.

In recent years, Utilitas has consistently invested in the development of district energy and the diversification of production. “Along with technological developments, we are also updating the organisation of work to ensure even greater reliability, energy efficiency and security of supply. In the field of district energy, we started using Alldevice maintenance software, which supports the digitalisation of maintenance processes and further develops our current preventive maintenance practice,” says Kiur Kalme, Deputy Network Manager of Utilitas Tallinna Soojus AS.

Alldevice offers a local solution with a stable development history

The introduction of the new software solution is part of a broader goal to keep the technological capabilities up to date and implement innovative and reliable digital solutions. For Utilitas, it was important that it was a local solution with a stable development history and mobile usability. Alldevice met these expectations and provided an environment with a clear and logical user interface that allowed for a smooth deployment.

“We will first implement the software in the district heating sector of Tallinn, and in the next stages, its use will also expand to the regional offices. The implementation will take place in stages, we will involve different teams and collect feedback on an ongoing basis so that the solution would support daily work as efficiently as possible,” says Kalme.

“Already today, it can be seen that the initiation, documentation and handover of work has become smoother and the time spent has decreased.”

Mobility reduces time spent

Already today, it can be seen that the initiation, documentation and handover of work has become smoother and the time spent has decreased. Activities at the sites can be formalised on a mobile device: adding descriptions, images and signatures and directing information to the system is instantaneous. If intervention is required on something, the device’s history is immediately visible. This helps to make decisions faster and supports the daily work efficiency of teams.

Alldevice creates additional opportunities for even more accurate maintenance planning and data-driven management. Automatic consolidation of equipment uptime and other indicators into one system allows for better scheduling of maintenance and more targeted use of resources. In this way, it is possible to reduce unexpected downtime, extend the life of equipment and ensure uninterrupted and energy-efficient district energy service for the customers.

Looking to the future

“Alldevice is a strategic partner for us, supporting the digitalization of the field of district energy and helping us to increase the efficiency and systematization of maintenance processes,” confirms Kalme. “We see that this solution creates a strong foundation for the further development of work processes and supports our goal of providing a reliable and sustainable service also in the future.”
